Amasa Smith DSW, LICSW
I offer individual and group therapy to adults, with an additional focus on college undergraduate and graduate students. The majority of clients that I work with are diagnosed with OCD and Related Disorders or Anxiety Disorders. My clinical approach to therapy is grounded in ERP, ACT, and CBT. I am passionate about working with individuals with OCD and OCD Related Disorders. The symptoms of OCD can derail and disrupt many of the most important aspects of life. Collaboratively leaning into OCD-specific therapy formats can produce a more enjoyable, meaningful, and fulfilled life.
I received my formal clinical education and training at Boston College, earning my MSW with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health. I furthered my clinical education at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) and earned my Doctorate of Clinical Social Work (DSW). Most notably, I am a graduate of the IOCDF Behavioral Therapy Training Institute (BTTI), where I advanced my skills utilizing Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in the treatment of individuals with OCD and Related Disorders. I have further training and expertise in working with undergraduate and graduate students in college counseling centers.
My formal graduate education at Boston College was built around a fundamental goal of teaching and cultivating culturally responsive clinicians. In my clinical practice, I utilize a multicultural orientation to process and address factors of intersectionality. My doctoral studies at Penn enhanced my efforts to provide anti-oppressive and trauma-informed care. At the same time, I strive to establish an inclusive and safe space for all of my clients to address their therapy goals. I am an LGBTQIA ally and work with many clients from this community. I use he/him/his pronouns, how about you?
