Naomi S. Edelson PsyD
I provide assessments, treatment (including exposure) and coaching to adults struggling primarily with OCD, anxiety disorders and chronic pain. About 50% of my practice is adults struggling with OCD or other anxiety disorders and 50% is spent treating chronic pain or illness. I have an additional specialty and interest in women’s health including the treatment of pelvic pain. I have a warm, relaxed style and believe that a little humor goes a long way sometimes. I love treating OCD and helping people to feel empowered and able to move on with their lives!
In addition to the treatment of OCD, I specialize in the treatment of chronic pain and illness, as well as chronic health anxiety, somatic symptom disorder and chronic pelvic pain. I also treat a range of associated challenges including panic, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, ADHD, PTSD, perfectionism, and depression.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist and have been treating anxiety disorders including OCD and health anxiety for over 10 years. I am also a pain psychologist, and additionally work in a hospital setting on a team including physicians and physical therapists. I earned my undergraduate degree from Reed College in psychology and my doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the Wright Institute. I am the primary investigator and director of psychological services for the Stanford University-based Empower study at Kaiser Oakland. I have attended numerous workshops on OCD and am involved with numerous local and national professional organizations.
I am a certified instructor of Empowered Relief, which is an evidence-based, single-session pain class that rapidly equips patients with effective pain management skills. I teach this class at intervals throughout the year- please email for further information.
