William A. Dickman MD
I am in full time private practice of child and adult psychiatry. Approximately one third of my patients have OCD; one third have anxiety issues, and one third have ADHD and depression issues.
I treat co-occurring ADHD, depression, separation anxiety, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, phobias (including emetophobia), panic, and sleep issues. I utilize CBT/ Exposure and Response Prevention as major treatment modalities. I also prescribe medication when indicated.
I have had full Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Fellowship training. I have been in weekly supervision for 14 + years with a nationally renowned CBT/OCD/Anxiety disorder specialist. I have taken numerous Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital courses in CBT for Adults and Children, OCD, BDD, and anxiety issues. I focus my Continuing Medical Education training on best current practices in the pharmacologic treatment of OCD and anxiety disorders.
During my psychiatric residency and then my child and adolescent fellowship, I had considerable training and experience in working with multicultural populations. I worked part time for many years as a psychiatrist in the psychiatric emergency services department at Highland Hospital in Oakland, California. I have had many Continuing Medical Education courses focused on cultural competency and working with diverse populations of patients.
For all four years of college, I tutored students from lower socio-economic status backgrounds. My senior year, I was the student head of the Yale-New Haven Tutoring Project. Prior to medical school, I spent a year teaching English to 7-12th grade Nigerian students in Katsina, Nigeria; I also spent a year teaching 7th grade English to lower socio-economic students in a US middle school.
