Sarah Cheney LCSW
I have over 10 years of experience and training in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP). I work with adolescents, young adults, and adults. I also include family members in therapy to increase the treatment’s success, and I especially enjoy empowering parents to help their children at home. I also have 10 years of experience with treating eating disorders and use the Maudsley family-based treatment (FBT) with ACT and ERP for all ages.
ACT in combination with ERP is a highly effective, hopeful, and non-pathologizing approach to mental and physical health and well being.
I’m a licensed clinical social worker providing teletherapy to residents throughout Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. I specialize in anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, and trauma. I’m passionate about and committed to mental health care based on science, research, and advanced psychological interventions.
I have completed advanced training in anxiety and OCD through the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS) conferences and have ongoing consultation with IOCDF advisory board member Lisa Coyne, PhD.
I tailor sessions to provide affirming, responsive, and safe therapy that acknowledges and respects an individual’s unique, individual identities such as gender, religion, ethnicity, physical ability, and sexuality. I am an experienced ally to LGBTQ+ clients.
