Margaret Barry LCSW
About half my practice is devoted to working with client’s struggling with OCD. I participate in a consultation group bi-weekly to support me in best supporting and treating my client’s and to expand my breadth of knowledge.
I also specialize in treating trauma and PTSD. I am trained in EMDR and Internal Family Systems and can help you in working through not only the trauma’s in life you may have experienced but also the daily trauma that OCD can cause those who struggle with it. I have worked a great deal with client’s who struggle with mood disorders and histories of abuse as well.
I have been a licensed therapist for 30 years and have trained in CBT, ERP, ACT, EMDR, IFS, DBT and other modalities. I greatly enjoy my relationship with my client’s and helping them to learn the skills needed to live a life focused on their values and goals rather than what OCD tells them. I attend regular workshops, trainings as well as read books on the topic of treating OCD . I also learn a great deal from the client’s themselves and what has worked to help them over the years of my practice.
Part of my training in working with client’s who have experienced trauma includes the ability to work with diverse populations and to continually be expanding my cultural competence. I approach each client with the focus of trauma informed care and acknowledge that the client is the expert on who they are and what their experiences have taught them. Through my practice, I will always work collaboratively with my client’s and attempt to create a space where they feel able to express themselves openly.
